La iniciativa está alineada con la recomendación de la Autoridad Bancaria Europea (EBA) de incrementar los pagos sin contacto, hasta los umbrales máximos de 50€ por transacción, según lo permitido por la legislación europea. Otros países están tomando medidas similares para facilitar los pagos sin contacto.
Esta iniciativa facilitará los pagos electrónicos con tarjeta, en detrimento del efectivo, y que la mayoría se realicen sin contacto. De esta forma se promueve la reducción de los desplazamientos necesarios para la obtención de efectivo, el contacto con el mismo y su circulación. Todo ello para favorecer la prevención y el control y evitar el contagio. Además, esta medida potenciará la velocidad y la conveniencia de comprar productos pagando con el móvil o con tarjetas sin contacto, lo que ayudará a reducir las colas en las cajas.
