Escrito tras una meticulosa investigación, la tercera de edición de este libro, el primero publicado sobre un guitarrero español, no sólo describe la vida obra de Antonio de Torres (1817-1892), sino que también aporta datos reveladores sobre la historia del instrumento. La primera parte trata de la vida de Torres en Sevilla y Almería, mientras que en la segunda parte se ocupa de aspectos técnicos de su obra, describiendo su método de construcción.
El autor ha viajado por muchos países a la busqueda de instrumentos del gran guitarreo almeriense, elaborando un catálogo con más de 85 guitarras, de las que se detallan sus dimensiones, etiquetas, propietarios, etc. Más de 300 fotografías ilustran las guitarras y la biografía de Torres, además, el libro también incluye planos reproducidos a escala para la reproducción de guitarras al estilo Torres.

En la presente obra, la autora, nacida en Chirivel, se sirve de su propia experiencia para relatar y recrear los modos de vida de los años sesenta y setenta en el pequeño pueblo donde nació y vivió, que podría ser extensible a otros municipios de la provincia de Almería y al medio rural, en general.
Relatado en un tono intimista, con toques de nostalgia y de gratitud, a lo largo del texto se va articulando lo personal con lo general, lo local con lo universal, la reflexión con la descripción etnográfica, a fin de ofrecer una imagen verosímil de cómo era la vida en un momento de cambio social. La niña que miraba desde los tejados, tenía claro que la educación era el trampolín que permitiría no solo trascender la vida de precariedad y escasez, también el rol tradicional asignado a las mujeres en las sociedades rurales.

En la Navidad de 1568 los moriscos se sublevan en La Alpujarra y extienden la revuelta a las comarcas del río Nacimiento, Gérgal, Campos de Tabernas y Níjar. La obra relata con gran detalle cómo sucedieron aquellos primeros momentos y de la conmoción de las autoridades, que fueron incapaces de frenar la sedición. Fue tan virulento el alzamiento que ocasionó en un primer momento la intervención del II marqués de los Vélez con un fuerte contingente del reino de Murcia.

Sánchez Ramos describe con minuciosidad los diferentes bandos políticos en el seno de la nación morisca, cuyo rey era Abén Humeya, así como las dificultades del generalato realista para sofocar la rebelión. Antes al contrario, a partir de junio de 1569 la contienda se extendió a la Sierra de los Filabres y valle del Almanzora, amenazando con colapsar el territorio con los intentos de ocupación de las comarcas de Los Vélez y el Levante. Ante el cariz que adoptó el conflicto Felipe II ordenó la intervención de los tercios de Italia, tropa de élite que quedó bajo el mando de un miembro de la familia real: don Juan de Austria.

En este libro se ofrecen las claves de un complejísimo conflicto poco conocido que cuenta con múltiples escenarios bélicos a lo largo y ancho de la provincia almeriense, toda vez que sienta las bases de las diferentes estrategias seguidas en ambos bandos, contextualizándolos dentro del delicado y difícil equilibrio Mediterráneo. La alianza morisca con las naciones berberiscas y, sobre todo, con el imperio otomano, dieron un cariz internacional a la guerra, que queda enmarcada en el contexto imperial. Todo ello dentro de una constante espiral de violencia, los ánimos de paz lograron abrirse paso en ambos bandos a inicios de 1570, plasmados en los tratos de paces entre don Juan de Austria y Hernando el Habaquí. La promulgación del bando de Santa Fe de Mondújar para la reducción de los moriscos, protagonizada en Padules, y repetida en Fuente Victoria, oficialmente zanjó el conflicto.

El Instituto de Estudios Almerienses puso en marcha en 1996 el proyecto para estudiar el fenómeno de las manifestaciones del pueblo en su relación con la divinidad, cada vez más en auge, contrastando las que se celebran en distintas zonas de la geografía española con las de nuestra tierra almeriense. Almería es un referente en los estudios de religiosidad popular a nivel de todos los pueblos y ciudades de España. Estas actas, se tratan de un estudio multidisciplinar, realizado con un gran rigor científico, con participación de historiadores, antropólogos, investigadores, etnógrafos e historiadores del Arte, que conforman un mosaico variado de aportaciones que enriquecen el conocimiento sobre la religiosidad popular en Almería.
Estos volúmenes representan un homenaje a Emilio Esteban Hanza. Fallecía el pasado 24 de marzo de 2020, quien se había implicado con gran interés en el desarrollo de las VII Jornadas de Religiosidad Popular, participando activamente en las mismas. Este reconocimiento es fruto de su entusiasmo por ofrecer al público lector en general, pero sobre todo a expertos y canjilones, un surtido material documental para hacer más comprensible la historia de la Santa Cruz del Voto de Canjáyar.
