Al viajar, el titular del Certificado COVID Digital COVID de la UE debe, en principio, quedar exento de las restricciones a la libre circulación: los Estados miembros deberán abstenerse de imponer restricciones adicionales de viaje a las personas titulares de un Certificado COVID Digital de la UE, a menos que dichas restricciones sean necesarias y proporcionadas para salvaguardar la salud pública;

La Comisión Europea ha creado un portal a través del cual puedan verificarse las firmas de los certificados en toda la UE. Se expedirá un certificado de vacunación a toda persona que haya recibido cualquier vacuna contra la COVID-19.

Las personas totalmente vacunadas en posesión del certificado COVID digital de la UE deben quedar exentas de las pruebas relacionadas con los viajes o de la cuarentena 14 días después de haber recibido la última dosis de una vacuna contra la COVID-19 autorizada para toda la UE. Las personas que hayan realizado una prueba negativa que figure en su certificado COVID digital de la UE deben quedar exentas de los posibles requisitos de cuarentena, excepto cuando procedan de zonas gravemente afectadas por el virus. Los Estados miembros acordaron un período de validez normalizado para las pruebas: 72 horas para las pruebas PCR y 48 horas para las pruebas rápidas de antígenos, cuando el Estado miembro las acepte.
