El presidente del PP de Almería, Javier A. García, el secretario general Ramón F. Pacheco, el diputado Miguel Ángel Castellón y el senador Rafael Hernando, han comaprecido ante los medios para valorar el anuncio del Gobierno, que deja en la mitad la cantidad prevista para 2021, si bien lo que más indignado a los populares es que "están alejados de la realidad almeriense".

Lo que realmente se aleja es la posibilidad de que el AVE llegue a Almería en 2026, ya que, según han explicado los populares, de los 588 millones de euros previstos en total para la provincia en 2021, en el ferrocarril, solo se ha ejecutado un total de 41 millones, y en el mejor de los casos, a final de año se alcanzarán los 60 millones. Del mismo modo, tanto Castellón como Hernando han dejado claro que no se puede hablar de que la inversión de 2021 pasa a 2022, ya que "es imposible ejecutar 800 millones de euros en un solo año". Así, Castellón ha sido muy gráfico al explicar que además de las licitaciones y las adjudicaciones y los plazos legales que llevan "los obreros tendrían que estar trabajando a tres turnos y ni aún así da tiempo".

hernando también ha destacado que de 1.700 millones de euros que quedaban para terminar las obras del AVE en Almería, se han invertido 700 y aún quedan 1.000 pendientes. En ese sentido ha recordado que el PSOE anunció 100 millones para la conexión con Granada, pero no ha ejecutado nada, y ahora solo anuncian cinco millones.
