Tras la aparición de la COVID-19, a la tradicional agrupación de las casi 1.700 causas básicas de mortalidad en 102 grupos de causas, se han añadido dos nuevos grupos exclusivos para la COVID-19:

Por grandes grupos de edad, 5.844 correspondieron al grupo de 65 y más años (el 89,6%), y solo una al grupo de menores de 15 años.
Observando la evolución por meses, el mayor número de defunciones se produjo en noviembre tanto en el grupo de 65 y más años como en el de 15 a 64 años. Sin embargo, el segundo mes con mayor frecuencia fue abril para el grupo de mayores de 65 años y diciembre para el de 15 a 64 años.
