Más de 300 pasajeros y más de 100 embarcarán esta noche en el ferri Wasa Express, de la naviera Baleària, que realizará el servicio entre Almería y Nador. Será el primer viaje entre el Puerto almeriense y el de la ciudad marroquí en el que los pasajeros lo harán con sus propios coches.

De esta manera, según destaca el presidente de la Autoridad Portuaria de Almería, Jesús Caicedo, se normaliza la actividad en el movimiento de pasajeros entre Almería y el norte de África: “En noviembre pasado se restableció el servicio con los puertos argelinos de Ghazaouet y Orán, la semana pasada se restableció el servicio con Nador, aunque solo para pasajeros sin vehículos, y hoy lunes se normaliza totalmente, ya que los viajeros pueden embarcar con sus coches”.
En el trayecto Nador-Almería, del próximo miércoles día 20, en el ferri de Baleària llegarán también los primeros viajeros con sus vehículos, procedentes de la ciudad marroquí.

En 2019, último año antes de la pandemia y del cierre de fronteras de Marruecos y Argelia, por el Puerto de Almería pasaron más de 950.000 pasajeros. De este pasaje, el Puerto de Nador copó más del 50% del movimiento de viajeros con salida y llegada en la dársena almeriense: en total viajaron 507.620 personas. En los ferris que unen Almería y Melilla viajaron 333.367 pasajeros, el 35% del total. En cuanto a los puertos argelinos, entre Almería y Orán se movieron más de 65.200 pasajeros (el 6,8%), mientras que la relación con Ghazaouet superó los 45.400 pasajeros (el 4,7%).
En 2021, año en el que Marruecos mantuvo cerradas sus fronteras y en el que el gobierno argelino las reabrió a mediados de noviembre, por la Estación Marítima de Almería pasaron 70.509 viajeros. De esta cifra, el 56% viajaron entre Almería y Melilla (más de 39.500). Con los puertos argelinos, el movimiento de pasajeros superó los 13.000 (casi el 19%), cifra registrada prácticamente a partir del 14 de noviembre. En los ferris que unen Almería y Nador viajaron el pasado año más de 17.600 pasajeros, el 25% del total de viajeros que pasaron por el Puerto almeriense. La práctica totalidad de estos viajeros fueron conductores de camión de mercancías, ya que, hasta la reapertura de las fronteras marroquíes, han sido las únicas personas autorizadas a entrar en Marruecos por vía marítima.
