El Ayuntamiento de Almería ha aprobado, en el seno de la Junta de Gobierno Local, la licitación del contrato para la redacción del proyecto, dirección de obra, coordinación de seguridad y salud y responsable de contrato del acondicionamiento del ámbito de Torreones, en el barrio de Pescadería-La Chanca, con un presupuesto total de 17.908 euros. Junto a ello se han aprobado los pliegos de cláusulas, administrativas Particulares y técnicas, que han de regir en la adjudicación de este contrato de servicios. El plazo de redacción del proyecto es de tres meses.

Con este contrato, el Consistorio vendrá a definir las obras de urbanización, mejora y protección del entorno de los torreones de la muralla medieval, situados junto a las calles Estrella Polar, Torreones y Avda del Mar, proyecto que incluye el acondicionamiento, limpieza y la regeneración paisajística de la zona. La inversión prevista en esta actuación se ha calculado en 275.000 euros.
Se trata de una de las tres actuaciones que, junto a las obras de rehabilitación del edificio de El Patio y la rehabilitación del conjunto de vivienda municipales de la calle Estrella Polar, el Ayuntamiento presentara para acogerse al programa de subvenciones de la Junta de Andalucía para el fomento de la regeneración y renovación urbana y que supondrá la inversión conjunta de más de tres millones de euros.

Aunque en la zona existían antiguos edificios municipales que fueron demolidos, tanto por motivos de protección del patrimonio como por la necesidad de que el barrio cuente con los espacios libres de los que actualmente carece, se prevé la ejecución de una zona verde que propicie una mejora ambiental con alcance para el conjunto del barrio.
