En noviembre de 2020 tuvo lugar el primer ‘bunkering’ de gas natural licuado (GNL) en un buque atracado en el Puerto de Almería. Fue el ferri ‘Bahama Mama’, de la naviera Baleària, que cargó sus tanques con este combustible más limpio y sostenible. Desde entonces, varios buques de la naviera repostan en la dársena almeriense, que ha adaptado sus instalaciones para la carga de GNL con camiones cisterna.

El suministro de gas natural licuado a buques es una apuesta de la Autoridad Portuaria de Almería (APA), en su compromiso por el desarrollo sostenible y el respeto al medio ambiente. Y es que, el GNL se ha mostrado como un combustible más limpio y eficiente, ya que reduce las emisiones de los buques a la atmósfera, tanto durante el viaje, como durante su estancia en el Puerto.
La pasada semana se realizó una operación de carga en el buque ‘Nápoles’, que cubre los servicios entre Almería y los puertos de Melilla y Nador. El ‘bunkering’ se realiza con un camión cisterna en un tiempo aproximado de 60 minutos, y cumpliendo unas estrictas medidas de seguridad. La carga se realizó con un camión de la empresa ESK, especializada en transporte y suministro de gas natural licuado. En la operación colaboraron la propia naviera y personal de la APA.

En el Puerto de Almería también se realizan cargas ‘bunkering multi truck to ship’ de GNL, un método en el que intervienen dos o más camiones cisterna, con lo que se reduce considerablemente el tiempo de repostaje.

Para poder llevar a cabo la carga de GNL en el Puerto, la APA realizó sendos estudios previos sobre la valoración técnica y de seguridad del servicio, y posteriormente acometió unos trabajos de adaptación de los muelles para la realización de ‘bunkering’. En total, instalaron siete hidrantes nuevos externos en la red contraincendios y se cambiaron las tomas de agua potable y las arquetas en las rampas 2, 3, 4, 5 y 6. Los trabajos los realizó la empresa José Martínez Sierra. Asimismo, la APA dispone de un manual de seguridad para operaciones de ‘bunkering’ a buques de GNL, realizado por la empresa Tramita Ingeniería.
