La Comisión Europea ha aprobado la constitución del consorcio europeo de infraestructuras de investigación EU-SOLARIS ERIC, que está liderado por España a través del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación.

El objetivo de esta infraestructura, ahora reconocida formalmente como consorcio europeo, es la consolidación de la tecnología solar térmica de concentración como energía renovable en el marco de la transición energética global hacia un modelo descarbonizado, según ha informado el Ministerio.

En este contexto, la ministra de Ciencia e Innovación, Diana Morant, ha destacado que EU-SOLARIS "pretende constituirse como la infraestructura europea de referencia en el desarrollo tecnológico de esta tecnología solar y sus aplicaciones".

Morant también ha señalado que esta nueva infraestructura de investigación en energías renovables "reafirma el compromiso de este Gobierno con la transición energética".

Además de España, en EU-SOLARIS participan también Alemania, Chipre y Francia, como miembros de pleno derecho; así como Portugal como país observador, aunque está abierto a la participación futura de otros países europeos que tengan interés en la investigación y el desarrollo de las tecnologías de concentración solar.

El nuevo consorcio tendrá su sede en la Plataforma Solar de Almería (Andalucía) centro que pertenece al Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT), dependiente del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación.

La ministra ha manifestado que, con esta iniciativa, se refuerza este centro de referencia mundial en concentración solar en el que trabajan más de 120 personas, "dentro del compromiso del Gobierno de España con impulsar la I+D+I en todos los territorios". Este centro y el CIEMAT dedican cada año más de 10 millones de euros de inversión a esta tecnología.
