El PSOE de Almería capital ha homenajeado a Nicolás Redondo, líder histórico de la UGT y socialista, fallecido a principios de este mes de enero.

Indalecio Gutiérrez, secretario de Organización del PSOE de la capital, y Carmen Vidal, secretaria general del sindicato en Almería, descubrieron una fotografía del sindicalista que se convirtió en la bestia negra de González, ya que marcó distancias entre el sindicato y el partido. Especialmente duro fue el hecho de que liderara la primera huelga general de la recuperada democracia, y que lo hiciese en contra de un gobierno socialista, y que además, protagonizara enfrentamientos constantes con ministros socialistas como Carlos Solchaga.
Desde el inicio, Redondo se enfrentó a Solchaga, diciéndole cosas como: «No has elegido bien tu estrategia», «Tu problema, Carlos, son los trabajadores, no la subida salarial». Sin embargo, el ex ministro no se arredró y respondió: «En los puestos públicos hemos dimitido, pero los líderes sindicales no tienen intención de hacerlo». En diciembre de 1988, Redondo lideró una huelga de protesta contra el Plan de Empleo Juvenil del Gobierno del que formaba parte Solchaga. Esta acción desató uno de los momentos más difíciles para el presidente González y supuso la separación entre él y su viejo amigo.

A pesar de aquello, nadie se atrevió a expulsar a Redondo del Partido Socialista, y su hijo, Nicolás Redondo Terreros, también ha tenido sus cuitas con el PSOE por la deriva que comenzó con José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.
