La alcaldesa de Almería, María del Mar Vázquez, ha puesto en valor la labor de Asalsido a favor de la inclusión de las personas con síndrome de Down. Lo ha hecho durante una visita a las instalaciones de la asociación, que este mes de mayo celebra su 33 aniversario, de manera que ha podido conocer con detalle los servicios que la entidad ofrece tanto a sus socios como a los usuarios, los recursos humanos y materiales con los que se atiene a las personas con síndrome de Down y con otras discapacidades intelectuales.

Acompañada por la concejala de Familia, Igualdad y Participación Ciudadana, Paola Laynez, la presidenta de Asalsido-Down Almería, Isabel Parras, el gerente Francisco Navarro, y la directora, Lola Rodríguez, Vázquez ha agradecido “como almeriense la gran labor que desempeña desde hace tantísimos años por las familias y por las personas con síndrome de Down, ya que dan servicio a unos 250 usuarios”. Asimismo, ha destacado el convenio de colaboración que el Ayuntamiento firmó con Asalsido el año pasado “para la inserción y seguimiento laboral, que está funcionando muy bien, porque estas personas merecen tener esa inserción laboral, para lo que se les da formación, talleres de bienestar y de autonomía, para que puedan conseguir la integración social”.
La regidora también ha subrayado la importancia de la vivienda con apoyo a la vida independiente que Asalsido gestiona, y en la que actualmente residen ocho personas con síndrome de Down. En este sentido, ha asegurado que “las familias y los profesionales que ponen a disposición de la sociedad su formación, su conocimiento y su cariño para mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas merecen nuestro agradecimiento”. Precisamente, uno de los principales retos que Asalsido tiene a la vista es la construcción de un nuevo residencial de apartamentos para la vida independiente, que se erigirá en el solar aledaño a la sede de la Asociación cedido por el Ayuntamiento de Almería.

Por su parte, Isabel Parras ha agradecido la visita de María del Mar Vázquez y Paola Laynez, a la vez que ha indicado que en Asalsido “atendemos a las personas con síndrome de Down desde que nacen hasta el final de sus días, y procuramos darle a cada uno lo que necesita y los apoyos que necesita, y cómo no, el apoyo de toda la sociedad”. Parras ha aprovechado la ocasión para anunciar que los próximos días 15, 16 y 17 de mayo, Asalsido abrirá sus puertas a la sociedad almeriense con motivo de su 33 Aniversario, en unas Jornadas de Puertas Abiertas. “Queremos que nos conozcan, porque nos es lo mismo que te lo digan, que venir a verlo”, ha puntualizado, “aquí se puede ver a los chicos trabajando, en sus clases, en sus talleres y programas, y cómo hacemos que la inclusión sea una realidad”.

La visita se ha realizado con motivo de la celebración, el próximo 17 de mayo, del trigésimo tercer Aniversario de la creación de la Asociación Almeriense para el Síndrome de Down (Asalsido-Down Almería), una entidad sin ánimo de lucro que inicia su actividad en mayo de 1990 con la finalidad de normalizar y mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas con síndrome de Down y sus familias. Es una entidad declarada de Utilidad Pública y federada en Down España y en Down Andalucía.

Hasta la fecha, han sido 33 años de trabajo y dedicación al servicio de este colectivo, apostando por la inclusión de las personas con síndrome de Down en todos los ámbitos de la sociedad: educativo, laboral, cultural, deportivo y de entretenimiento.

Su principal objetivo es la normalización, inclusión y mejora de la calidad de vida de las personas con síndrome de Down, desde su nacimiento y en todas las etapas de la vida, para conseguir una vida propia, autónoma e independiente como ciudadanos de pleno derecho, todo ello teniendo en cuenta los objetivos individualizados para cada persona. Entre sus retos más importantes, está el de ser capaz de dar respuesta a las demandas que planteen las personas con síndrome de Down para desarrollar el Proyecto de Vida que ellos mismos determinen, así como de dar respuesta a las familias, formándolas e informándolas para adecuarse a los cambios que van demandando sus hijos e hijas en cada etapa evolutiva.
Por otra parte, Asalsido-Down Almería pretende también velar por que toda la comunidad modifique su visión y trato hacia las personas con síndrome de Down, y por que los profesionales encargados de atenderles reflexionen sobre su trabajo, encaminados a la consecución de una mayor autonomía e independencia de las personas con síndrome de Down y sus familias.

En estos momentos, Asalsido-Down Almería atiende a 146 familias que pertenecen a la Asociación y a otros usuarios, a través de servicios propios y concertados. En total, la Asociación cuenta actualmente con 70 trabajadores al servicio de 250 usuarios que tienen acceso el Centro de Educación Infantil, al Centro Educativo Concertado Down Almería, Centro de Atención Infantil Temprana, el Centro Ocupacional Arte2, así como otros servicios que presta la asociación con talleres de apoyo, rehabilitación, integración social, deporte, arte, empleo y autonomía, entre muchos otros.

De hecho, Asalsido ha conseguido distintas contrataciones de personas con síndrome de Down en empresas ordinarias de la provincia de Almería, así como que ocho adultos con síndrome de Down vivan de forma independiente en una vivienda tutelada. Todas estas razones les han llevado a conseguir en 2022 la Candela Social de los galardones Candelas de Oro que cada año entrega la Asociación de Vecinos Nuestra Señora de la Paz.
