Estas cifras son inaceptables e intolerables. No podemos mirar hacia otro lado ante una realidad que nos interpela como sociedad. El suicidio es un fenómeno complejo y multifactorial, que requiere de una intervención integral y coordinada desde diferentes ámbitos: sanitario, educativo, social, judicial, mediático, etc. No podemos dejar solas a las personas que sufren y que piensan en acabar con su vida. Por eso, es necesario poner en marcha medidas urgentes y efectivas para prevenir y reducir las conductas suicidas en Andalucía. La Junta de Andalucía ha elaborado el Programa de Prevención de la Conducta Suicida en Andalucía 2023-2026 , que plantea una serie de objetivos y acciones para abordar este problema desde una perspectiva multidisciplinar y participativa. Se trata de un programa ambicioso y viable, que cumple con los criterios internacionales de calidad y que se adapta a la realidad de nuestra comunidad.
Entre las medidas propuestas por el programa, destacan las siguientes: sensibilizar a la población sobre la importancia de la prevención del suicidio; formar a los profesionales sanitarios, educativos y sociales en la detección e intervención precoz; mejorar la atención integral a las personas con riesgo suicida y a sus familias; reforzar la red de recursos asistenciales y comunitarios; impulsar la investigación y la evaluación sobre el suicidio; y regular el tratamiento informativo responsable del suicidio por parte de los medios de comunicación.

Pero no solo se trata de cifras. Detrás de cada suicidio hay una historia personal, familiar y social que merece ser escuchada y respetada. Los profesionales de los Institutos de Medicina Legal y Ciencias Forenses (IMLCF) de Andalucía, dependientes de la Consejería de Justicia, Administración Local y Función Pública, realizaron durante el año pasado un total de 4.641 autopsias . El resultado de las mismas determinó que el 49,3% de los casos fueron muertes naturales (2.290) y el resto, muertes violentas (2.144) o por causas que no se han podido concretar. Entre las muertes no naturales, 830 fueron suicidios, el 38,7% de éstas y un 17,8% de todos los fallecidos a los que se le hizo la autopsia en los IMLCF.

Si la principal causa de muerte natural está vinculada a enfermedades o patologías cardiovasculares, en el caso de las muertes violentas más de la mitad son accidentales (1.130 el año pasado), principalmente por caídas, seguidas de los siniestros de tráfico. No obstante, el número de suicidios va en aumento y en algunas provincias casi se han equiparado. El perfil de los suicidas es el de varones de mediana edad y el procedimiento más utilizado es el ahorcamiento.
La cifra de homicidios es mucho menor: 73 casos en 2022, el 3,4% de las muertes violentas y el 1,5% de todas las autopsias realizadas. Estos datos nos muestran que el suicidio es un problema grave y urgente, que requiere de una mayor atención y prevención. No podemos ignorar el sufrimiento de las personas que se encuentran en una situación de desesperanza y aislamiento. Debemos tenderles la mano y mostrarles que hay otras salidas, que hay esperanza y que no están solas. Debemos romper el silencio y el estigma que rodea al suicidio y crear una cultura de la vida y del cuidado mutuo. Debemos salvar vidas, porque cada vida cuenta. No podemos permitirnos tres suicidios diarios.
