La organización agraria ASAJA ha calificado de intolerable el resultado de la votación en la Comisión de Medio Ambiente y Salud Pública del Parlamento Europeo sobre el Reglamento sobre el Uso Sostenible de Productos Fitosanitarios (SUR). Según ASAJA, la propuesta no está respaldada por ningún estudio de impacto a nivel europeo y supone un grave riesgo para la competitividad y la sostenibilidad del sector agrario.

La propuesta, elaborada por la eurodiputada austriaca de Los Verdes, Sarah Wiener, pretende reducir a la mitad el uso de pesticidas en toda la UE y establece objetivos de reducción obligatorios para cada país, en función de su consumo anterior. Además, se endurecen las restricciones para los productos considerados más peligrosos y se amplían las zonas sensibles donde se prohíbe su aplicación.
ASAJA considera que estos objetivos son irrealistas e inviables, y que no tienen en cuenta las realidades agrícolas sobre el terreno ni las prácticas de gestión integrada de plagas que ya se aplican. Asimismo, alerta de que la propuesta tendría consecuencias sin precedentes para la producción, la calidad y la seguridad alimentaria, así como para el medio ambiente y el empleo.

Por ello, ASAJA insta a los eurodiputados españoles a que rectifiquen su voto y apoyen el informe alternativo aprobado por la Comisión de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural del Parlamento Europeo, que es más equilibrado y coherente con las necesidades del sector. En especial, pide a los dos eurodiputados socialistas, César Luena y Javi López, que cambien su posición contraria a los intereses de los agricultores, y a la eurodiputada de Ciudadanos, Soraya Rodríguez Ramos, que no se abstenga y participe en la votación.

La propuesta de la Comisión de Medio Ambiente pasará al Pleno del Parlamento Europeo en noviembre, donde se decidirá su aprobación o rechazo definitivo. ASAJA espera que prevalezca el sentido común y se evite dar la puntilla al sector agrario.
