El equipo local fue superior durante la mayor parte del partido, generando numerosas ocasiones de gol, especialmente por la banda izquierda de Rioja. Sin embargo, se encontró con un Almería bien plantado en defensa y con un Maximiano muy seguro en la portería. El Almería, por su parte, mostró muy poco en ataque, sin crear peligro ni tener el control del balón. Su mejor oportunidad llegó en el minuto 43, cuando el árbitro señaló un penalti a favor de los visitantes por una mano de Chumi. En la segunda parte, el Almería salió con más intención ofensiva, pero pronto volvió a ceder el dominio al Alavés, que siguió buscando el gol con insistencia. El premio llegó en el minuto 79, cuando Sedlar remató un balón suelto dentro del área tras un saque de esquina y lo envió al fondo de la red. El gol fue revisado por el VAR, pero finalmente se dio por válido.

El Almería intentó reaccionar en los últimos minutos, pero no tuvo ideas ni claridad para generar ocasiones de gol. El Alavés supo defender su ventaja y se llevó los tres puntos, que le permiten alejarse de los puestos de descenso. El Almería, por su parte, sigue sin conocer la victoria en esta temporada y se hunde en la última posición de la tabla.
