Por su parte José Muñoz, director de la carrera, ha resaltado la vinculación de Vícar con la prueba. “Para nosotros, Vícar es un municipio referente en deporte y cultura, que lleva años apostando de forma decida por esta prueba”. La Clásica de Almería masculina cumple este año su 37ª edición y contará con la participación de 20 equipos en la línea de salida, muchos de ellos de categoría WorldTour. En total está prevista la presencia en la línea de salida de 140 corredores de los principales equipos ciclistas. Aunque es todavía pronto para conocer las inscripciones definitivas, ya han confirmado su presencia equipos de la talla de Movistar, Bora, Cofidis o Groupama, y corredores de categoría, como el danés Magnus Cort Nielsen (ganador de la Clásica de 2017), los franceses Bryan Cokuard y Arnaud Démare (ganador de numerosas etapas del Tour de Francia y del Giro de Italia), o el corredor belga Arnaud De Lie.

No es la primera vez que Vícar participa organizando la salida de la prueba, y cuando la carrera cumple ya treinta y siete años, volverá a acoger la zona de salida, el control de firmas y la oficina permanente en el bulevar, frente al Ayuntamiento. De hecho Vícar ha organizado la salida de la prueba en doce de sus ediciones y ha sido línea de meta en otras cinco ocasiones. De este modo, se reafirma una vez más el compromiso de los ciudadanos de Vícar con este magnífico evento deportivo, que se ha consolidado año tras año como una de las citas más exigentes del calendario ciclista mundial, que traspasa el ámbito comarcal, provincial y nacional para ser punto de encuentro de las primeras figuras del deporte sobre dos ruedas.
