Este 8 de marzo de nuevo tenemos la oportunidad de conmemorar la importancia y el incalculable valor que las mujeres aportan en todos los ámbitos de la vida. Un momento para echar la vista atrás y ver todo lo que hemos conseguido, y así coger mayor impulso para seguir hacia delante, porque todavía son muchos los retos que nos quedan por alcanzar.
En fechas como esta no puedo evitar acordarme de muchas de las mujeres que he conocido durante mis más de 40 años como presidenta nacional de AFAMMER y también durante mi etapa como parlamentaria. Mujeres que han roto estigmas y han conseguido ser un referente a pesar de que en muchas ocasiones no lo han tenido nada fácil.

A día de hoy, he de reconocer el enorme orgullo que siento cuando se me acercan mujeres jóvenes para agradecerme la labor que hemos realizado. Muchas de ellas, son hijas o nietas de socias de AFAMMER que han asistido a las jornadas que realizamos por toda España para informar y también para concienciar del importante papel que juegan las mujeres de nuestros pueblos.
Sus madres y abuelas no pudieron estudiar, pero han querido que ellas tengan un futuro lleno de oportunidades y gracias a ello hoy contamos con la generación de mujeres rurales más preparada de la historia.

Pero independientemente del bagaje que han tenido tienen un denominador común: son mujeres fuertes y luchadoras, con el corazón lleno de sueños e ilusiones.
Unos sueños e ilusiones que tienen que convertirse en realidad. Y para ello es necesario más apoyo y compromiso institucional y social.

Este año AFAMMER vuelve a tener la oportunidad de dar voz a las mujeres rurales de España y de toda la comunidad internacional en Naciones Unidas. Lo haremos en la 68 Comisión Social y Jurídica de la Mujer bajo el lema “ONG’s imprescindibles para la igualdad y el liderazgo de las mujeres rurales” con el que pretendemos reivindicar el trabajo fundamental que desarrollan las organizaciones no gubernamentales a la hora de acercar la igualdad a los pueblos más remotos del mundo.
Pues solo así podremos acelerar el logro de la igualdad de género y el empoderamiento de las mujeres rurales. Un reto que tiene que solo será posible cuando contemos con los servicios públicos e infraestructuras para todos, independientemente del tamaño del municipio en el que residen.
