La Universidad de Almería ha cogido el testigo a Málaga para celebrar las II Jornadas Andaluzas de Celiaquía, un evento que se desarrolla bianualmente y que tiene como objetivo ofrecer información rigurosa sobre los avances e iniciativas encaminadas a facilitar la vida de las personas celíacas y sensibles al gluten.

Estudiantes, enfermos, y especialistas tienen la oportunidad hasta mañana sábado de conocer de primera mano los retos en el diagnóstico y seguimiento de la enfermedad, la importancia de la seguridad alimentaria y las empresas que han desarrollado iniciativas para hacer más fácil la vida de las personas celíacas.
Este evento está organizado por la Asociación de Celíacos de Almería y la Universidad de Almería, con la colaboración de Laboratorios Biogenox, Diputación de Almería y Junta de Andalucía.

Lorena Gutiérrez, directora del Secretariado de Campus Saludable, ha explicado que, para la UAL, “es un honor ser anfitriona de estas jornadas y poder colaborar en dar mayor visibilidad a esta patología y que poco a poco podamos ir avanzando en la investigación sobre la misma. En estas jornadas participan estudiantes, especialistas, pacientes y a todo aquel interesado en conocer más en profundidad esta enfermedad”.
Luis Cruz, presidente de la Asociación de Celíacos de Almería, ha explicado que el objetivo de las jornadas es “dar visibilidad a esa enfermedad. Tenemos muchas ganas de mostrarle a la población qué es la celiaquía, en qué consiste y cómo van las investigaciones relacionadas con esta enfermedad en las cuales se va avanzando. Por ejemplo, una de las ponencias de hoy hablará de cómo hacer nuestro propio pan sin gluten usando trigo ancestral que no está genéticamente modificado”.

También ha señalado algunas falsedades de la celiaquía. “Creencias como que comer sin gluten adelgaza o que un enfermo celíaco es simplemente un intolerante. Estamos hablando de una enfermedad autoinmune, de carácter genético, y una de las ideas de las jornadas es concienciar tanto al paciente sobre la enfermedad que padece como a la sociedad de la gravedad de la misma”.

Durante la jornada se ha hablado de diversos temas relacionados con esta enfermedad en la mayoría de los casos sin diagnosticar. Son miles de personas las que la sufren sin saberlo, por eso desde la Junta de Andalucía se puso en marcha el año pasado un protocolo de detección precoz de la enfermedad en atención primaria.

Gabriel López, representante del Colegio de Médicos de Almería, ha hecho referencia a la falta de diagnóstico. “Es una enfermedad bastante prevalente e infra diagnosticada (mucha gente la tiene sin saberlo). Aproximadamente el 1 por ciento de la población padece esta enfermedad, pero es manifiestamente conocido que no hay esa población diagnosticada en España. Hay mucha gente que no lo está y sobrevive con ella”.

El delegado territorial de Salud y Consumo, Juan de la Cruz Belmonte, ha señalado que “se trata de una enfermedad que tiene una sintomatología muy variada con manifestaciones larvadas a lo largo de la vida, por ese motivo puede diagnosticarse en edades avanzadas, aunque lo más más frecuente es hacerlo en la edad pediátrica”. Belmonte ha apuntado que “el único tratamiento de esta enfermedad es la dieta sin gluten y su adherencia a la misma, por ello es tan importante el trabajo de la enfermería en el asesoramiento nutricional del paciente y su familia, ya que de ello dependerá la evolución de la enfermedad”. El delegado de Salud y Consumo ha felicitado a Aspeceal y a la Universidad de Almería por la organización de estas jornadas “en las que el objetivo de todos los que nos hemos sumado es contribuir a la mejora de la calidad de vida de las personas celíacas”.
Un 75 por ciento de las personas celíacas en Almería no están diagnosticadas, tal y como ha señalado el vicepresidente y diputado de Bienestar Social, Ángel Escobar, quien, además, ha puesto de relieve el interés de la Diputación por "participar e impulsar aquellas iniciativas enmarcadas en la innovación social. En este caso, las jornadas convierten a Almería en un referente de la divulgación de todo lo relacionado con la celiaquía y van a servir para seguir avanzando en la sensibilización y visibilidad de esta enfermedad y en la importancia del diagnóstico precoz".
