Los senadores del Partido Popular (PP) por la Región de Murcia han exigido al Gobierno español que se dé prioridad a la ejecución del proyecto del ramal ferroviario de cercanías que conectaría Lorca con Águilas. Esta conexión es especialmente relevante para Almería, ya que el tramo Lorca-Pulpí-Águilas sigue sin plazos ni fechas de ejecución desde que las obras del corredor mediterráneo de alta velocidad interrumpieron el servicio en 2021.
Los populares han calificado la situación de Águilas como una “isla ferroviaria”, destacando lo “dramático” que resulta que esta ciudad no cuente con un estudio informativo ni con un proyecto técnico para la construcción del ramal. La falta de trenes está teniendo un impacto negativo en la economía local, afectando directamente al turismo estival, ya que el transporte alternativo por autobús no ha cumplido con las expectativas.

Por su parte, el PSOE ha defendido los avances realizados en materia ferroviaria, recordando que el pasado 7 de julio el Consejo de Ministros aprobó la licitación del despliegue del sistema de comunicaciones móviles GSM-R en la Línea de Alta Velocidad (LAV) Murcia-Almería y el ramal Pulpí-Águilas, con un presupuesto asignado de 26,3 millones de euros. Además, en marzo se formalizó un contrato para redactar un estudio informativo sobre el nuevo acceso ferroviario a Águilas, con una inversión de 253.000 euros y un plazo previsto de ejecución de 15 meses.
