En el área penal, se resolvieron 2.801 asuntos (un 2% más que el año pasado), dejando una pendencia a final de ejercicio de 593 asuntos. Los procesos penales iniciados se distribuyeron así: un 9% correspondió a procesos en única instancia, un 89% a recursos y el 2% restante a cuestiones de competencia, recusaciones y abstenciones. Dentro de los procesos en única instancia, hubo 249 ingresos: 27% fueron sumarios, 71% procedimientos abreviados y un 2% procesos bajo la Ley del Jurado.
De los recursos presentados, que ascendieron a 2.525, las apelaciones contra autos concentraron la mayoría, con 1.571 casos (62%). Otros tipos de apelaciones incluyeron juicios rápidos (261), delitos excluidos los leves (269), delitos leves (209 combinando inmediatos y restantes), Juzgado de Menores (18) y Vigilancia Penitenciaria (188). Se resolvieron también 62 asuntos de cuestiones de competencia, recusaciones y abstenciones.

En cuanto a resoluciones penales, la Audiencia dictó 2.734 resoluciones, divididas en 962 sentencias y 1.772 autos. Analizando por secciones, la Segunda Sección recibió 1.262 ingresos, resolvió 1.214 y cerró el año con 232 pendientes, mientras que la Tercera Sección tuvo 1.569 ingresos, resolvió 1.587 y finalizó con 361 asuntos pendientes. La tasa de resolución media fue del 0,98, la de pendencia del 0,21 (con tiempos medios estimados de resolución en torno a dos meses) y la tasa de congestión del 82%.
Comparando estos resultados con las demás Audiencias Provinciales de Andalucía, Almería se situó con un rendimiento penal bastante parejo al resto: tasa de resolución del 0,98 frente al promedio andaluz de 0,99; tasa de pendencia del 0,21 frente al 0,20 regional, y tiempo medio de resolución de tres meses (igual que Cádiz y Granada, por ejemplo).

Por el lado civil, los números fueron más desafiantes. La Audiencia de Almería registró 2.555 asuntos civiles y resolvió 2.033, dejando 1.09 de tasa de pendencia (asuntos pendientes sobre resueltos), 13 meses de media para la resolución y una tasa de congestión del 47%. Estos datos colocan a Almería ligeramente por debajo de la media andaluza en tasa de resolución civil (0,89 frente al 0,90 regional) y con un tiempo de respuesta que supera el año, algo similar a lo observado en Cádiz y Jaén, pero lejos de Sevilla, que cerró el año con un promedio de 24 meses.
