La Consejería de Sanidad, Presidencia y Emergencias ha dado un paso significativo al incorporar la terapia de campos eléctricos alternos, conocida como ‘TTFields’, para el tratamiento del glioblastoma, uno de los tumores cerebrales más agresivos. Esta innovadora tecnología utiliza dispositivos externos que ayudan a frenar o ralentizar el crecimiento tumoral, mejorando así la supervivencia y la calidad de vida de los pacientes afectados.

El consejero de Sanidad, Presidencia y Emergencias, Antonio Sanz, ha destacado que se trata de un avance real en el tratamiento del cáncer cerebral. «Esto permitirá a decenas de pacientes acceder a una terapia eficaz sin necesidad de salir de Andalucía, con todas las garantías y con financiación pública», afirmó. Se estima que entre 50 y 60 personas podrán beneficiarse anualmente de este tratamiento en nuestra comunidad autónoma.
Nuevas oportunidades en el tratamiento del glioblastoma
Hasta ahora, el tratamiento estándar del glioblastoma incluía cirugía, radioterapia y quimioterapia. Con la introducción de esta terapia, Andalucía realiza un «salto cualitativo» en la atención a estos pacientes. «Era fundamental ofrecer una respuesta innovadora y útil ante una enfermedad con un pronóstico complicado. ‘TTFields’ nos permite hacerlo con rigor, seguridad y equidad territorial», añadió Sanz.

El dispositivo utilizado para esta terapia es el optune®, aprobado en Estados Unidos y recomendado por sociedades científicas como la Sociedad Española de Oncología Médica. Su incorporación ampliará las opciones terapéuticas dentro del sistema sanitario público andaluz. «Queremos que la innovación llegue donde más falta hace y que los pacientes con cáncer cerebral tengan las mismas oportunidades de acceso que en los mejores centros europeos», concluyó Sanz.
El modelo implementado en Andalucía asegura un proceso ágil , desde la solicitud clínica hasta criterios claros de inclusión, consentimiento informado y un seguimiento específico. Este seguimiento se realizará mediante un registro anonimizado de pacientes e incluirá una evaluación continua para medir su impacto en la supervivencia, funcionalidad y calidad de vida.
