El portavoz de la Mesa en Defensa del Ferrocarril de Almería ha destacado la necesidad de certificar los planes del Gobierno con respecto al AVE en la región. El pasado 20 de enero, comenzó a funcionar una nueva línea de Media Distancia entre Almería y Granada. Esto ha llevado a la solicitud de un "estudio de mallas de circulaciones" que permita a los almerienses usar esta conexión para viajar a Madrid también en tren de alta velocidad, con dos o tres frecuencias durante el día.

Por otra parte, Tejada considera que es hora de que Renfe estudie nuevas conexiones con Málaga y Córdoba, para poder aprovechar las circulaciones existentes y fortalecer la conexión entre los distintos puntos de Andalucía. Esto haría que Almería estuviese más cerca de las capitales andaluzas conectadas por la línea de Alta Velocidad a través de Málaga y Córdoba.

Tejada ha apuntado que en la actualidad "únicamente solo hay dos circulaciones" de modo que el tren Sevilla-Almería solo dispone de una composición que sale a las 18,30 horas de Santa Justa para llegar sobre las 0,30 horas a Almería.
