Este encuentro se ha desarrollado en el marco de la ‘Carta de Compromisos’ que el alcalde de El Ejido, Francisco Góngora, y su homólogo del municipio de Westland, Bouke Arends, firmaron el pasado mes de diciembre para trabajar en proyectos de interés común relacionados con la agricultura, turismo, sostenibilidad e innovación.
Durante su visita, la delegación holandesa, compuesta por dos responsables de Turismo, Actividades y Playas del Ayuntamiento de Westland, Els van Oosten y Arjen van Telligen, ha aprovechado para conocer el proyecto ‘Agriculture Experience Center’ y el Plan de Playas, así como han conocido las instalaciones de la Estación Experimental de ‘Las Palmerillas’, Nature Choice, y Clisol turismo.

Westland es una de las mayores zonas de cultivo protegido con 4.500 hectáreas de la cuales 2.400 hectáreas son de invernaderos de cristal. Entre los proyectos y temas comunes en los que se está trabajando entre los dos municipios destaca el uso y la producción de energía, distribución y logística y el uso sostenible del agua.
