En relación al tramo entre Tarragona y València, han comenzado las obras para convertir el ancho ibérico en internacional sin necesidad de un tercer carril entre Tarragona y Castelló, con proyección de finalización en 2025 según el Ministerio.
Entre Castelló y València, avanzan las obras del tercer carril, mientras que en València están en curso las intervenciones en el canal de acceso y se están estudiando alternativas para el túnel pasante de la ciudad, sin establecer una fecha de conclusión.

En el quinto tramo, Murcia-Cartagena, solo hay una vía de ancho ibérico. Se están llevando a cabo acciones como el triángulo de El Reguerón (Región de Murcia) o las obras entre Riquelme y Torre Pacheco. En cuanto al séptimo tramo, de Almería a Antequera (Málaga), la conexión de alta velocidad está en servicio, aunque con condiciones mejorables según la plataforma empresarial. Se están llevando a cabo trabajos para construir una doble vía de ancho internacional en este tramo, mientras que hay una vía de ancho ibérico sin servicio. La conexión por alta velocidad entre Almería y Granada no tiene una fecha establecida para su puesta en marcha.
